Janet Wilson CText FTI, the author of Classic and Modern Fabrics is an international lecturer in the field of Textiles.
She has lectured in higher education in the UK for over 30 years and has taught training courses for the clothing and retail industry since 1992. Lecturing posts have been held at: the University of the Arts London (London College of Fashion, London College of Printing); University of Huddersfield; College for the Distributive Trades, London; Central School of Art & Design, London.

Professional work in the textile industry has included:

  • designing furnishing fabrics in both Switzerland and the UK (woven, warp-printed and warp-knitted fabrics)
  • designing men’s jersey knitwear in London and Scotland
  • textile research for Tootal and Transprints UK (warp-printing by heat transfer)
  • freelance design of jacquard and woven fabrics.

Currently Janet provides training for retail companies, and lectures in colleges, universities and to groups interested in textiles and their application, either as clothing or in the home.

The lectures are usually tailor-made, covering any, or all of the following: woven fabrics; warp-knitted fabrics; weft-knitted fabrics; printed & dyed fabrics; fibres & yarns; fabric finishing; textile testing & quality; fashion fabrics, furnishing fabrics, classic and modern fabrics.
